Taiwan shares closed above the key 10,000 level on Thursday for the first time in 17 years, as retail and foreign investors snapped up shares. The main index hit a session high of 10,018.79 on Thursday and closed at 10,001.48 points. The index last broke the 10,000 settlement level in April 2000.
